FOXVELO STRUCTURE

With FoxVelo's continued refinement into a organized racing "Club" and finely tuned, sponsored racing "Team", the following criteria were developed to provide approval criteria and voting procedures regarding membership in FoxVelo (The Club) and FoxVelo (The Team).  This formality is an attempt to control Club and Team size based on the available resources of the group, both human and financial.

Membership voting of both the Club and the Team will be conducted by the complete membership of  the Club, or the Team (as it applies), with a super-majority vote (defined as 75% in favor) being necessary to pass any motion of membership.  A single, well supported vote of "no" by any existing member may be sufficient to turn down the applicant.

Based on the criteria, one of the members of the Club (or Team) must nominate a potential new rider to the Director.  If approved, this nomination would then go up for discussion by all the members.  For Team nominations, the Director will approve the nomination based on the season's strategy and the match of the applicant cycling strengths (climber, sprinter, etc.) to meet that strategy.  After sufficient discussion, a vote will be taken to determine the acceptance of the applicant.

This same (general) procedure will be used in the event that a member needs to be removed from the Team or the Club.

FOX VELO RACING - THE "CLUB"

The following criteria govern membership of "Club" members.  "Club" riders presently wear "Red or Green "Moto-Fox" Jerseys during racing situations.

(1) RACING CYCLIST

You need to be a cyclist who actively participates in medium to high-speed distance rides with an emphasis on organized road or time trial racing.  Participation in Cyclocross or mountain bike racing is a plus.  Additionally, you need to have a "willingness" to:

Ø      Ride in all conditions (road quality or weather)

Ø      Ride during all seasons

Ø      Ride at "crazy" times of the day or night
(Butler riders begin training before 6:00am and ALL own lights)

Ø      Ride/Own different kinds of bikes (Road, Time Trial, CycloCross, Mountain, etc.)

Ø      Ride in different kinds of formats (Road Races, Criteriums, Time Trials, Endurance races, Hill Climbs, Benefit Rides, etc.)

(2) PERSONALITY

You must also have a personality that:

Ø      Meshes well with those of the other Club Members

Ø      Communicates a professional image within the community and at the races, at all times

Ø      Is aggressive without being overbearing or condescending to others

Ø       Is compatible with the level of importance and balance we place on racing, training, job and family

FOXVELO RACING - THE "TEAM"

Once a member of the FoxVelo "Club", a rider may also qualify for a position on the Racing Team (a sub-set of the Club) based on their cycling ability and the needs of the Team in terms of rider diversity and structure.  Team positions, which are presently limited to 12 riders, can qualify for varying amounts of sponsorship (uniforms and/or financial support) based on ability and contributions to the team in the racing environment.  Additionally, Team riders are expected to "meet and maintain" the following criteria.

(3) CYCLING ABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The "Team" will contain a collection of the best riders in the club, selected not just on their cycling ability, but on Team Structure, Team Strategy and their history of "meeting and maintaining" the goals set forth for their position on the Team.  Team structure, the selection of a fixed number of different rider types, is necessary to:

o        Build a strong, well-rounded team able to achieve results in many racing formats

o        Maximize the financial support of our sponsors through:

Ø      High Race Animation

Ø      Top Race Results

Ø      Minimized dilution of funds over too many riders

Present FoxVelo Rider-Types:

            Primary Emphasis:

o        Criterium Racing

Ø      Sprinters

Ø      Breakaway Artists

Ø      Domestiques

o        Time Trialists

            Secondary Emphasis:

o        Road Racing

o        CycloCross Racing

(4) COMMITMENT TO TEAM

Once chosen to the Team, the rider must show up for races and rides (within some limited frequency of exceptions caused by the realities of our "real" lives!). This commitment to the Team is necessary in order to:

Ø      Operate with strength (in numbers) "On-the-Road", race-in and race-out

Ø      Learn each other's "style & behavior" in racing situations so that we can operate with the cohesion of a single consciousness

Ø      Gain the trust of the other Team members so they know "you" will "be there at crunch time" when the Team needs you.

(5) DEDICATION TO TEAM

Team riders must also be willing to sacrifice their own personal finish-result goals in order to:

Ø      Achieve the Team strategy of each given race.

Ø      Work for that race's chosen Road-Leader

Ø      Capitalize on the "Road Strength" (re: tactical race implementation) mentioned in #4 above

This includes making the decision and effort to fulfill your pre-assigned role in the race strategy no matter how you feel and even when you know that your effort will/may result in a race DNF.
